Process Technologist

As a Process Technologist, you will be part of the Research, Development & Communication (OOC) department, working in a compact, multidisciplinary team.

COVRA is seeking a Process Technologist (fulltime) who will play a key role in developing and implementing innovative technologies for the processing and storage of radioactive waste. This is a dynamic position where you will work closely with colleagues within the Research, Development & Communication (OOC) department, as well as external experts, to enhance and optimize waste management processes.

As a Process Technologist, you will be responsible for monitoring developments in nuclear technology both in the Netherlands and internationally. You will translate these advancements into concrete recommendations for COVRA, ensuring that the organization remains at the forefront of safe and effective radioactive waste processing and storage. You will also work on a range of projects that require collaboration with research institutions, industry partners, and governmental agencies.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Research & Development: Investigate, develop, and implement new technologies and methods for the treatment, conditioning, and long-term storage of radioactive waste;
  • Project Coordination: Lead and coordinate technology projects, serving as a key point of contact for internal stakeholders, external partners, and clients, including nuclear power plants, hospitals, universities, and industrial organizations;
  • Knowledge Integration: Gather and integrate expertise from various disciplines to develop efficient and innovative solutions for radioactive waste processing;
  • Documentation & Analysis: Collect, analyze, and document critical information regarding current and future waste management projects, including the decommissioning of nuclear installations;
  • Stakeholder Communication: Provide expert advice and updates to internal and external stakeholders on the status, progress, and challenges of projects, offering solutions to address any technical or regulatory issues;
  • Scientific & Public Engagement: Contribute to technical, scientific, and public publications related to process technology and nuclear waste management;
  • International Collaboration: Participate in relevant (inter)national projects, conferences, and working groups to stay up to date with the latest advancements in the field and ensure best practices are applied at COVRA;
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all waste processing technologies comply with national and international nuclear safety, radiation protection, and environmental regulations.

What You Bring

  • A university degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, environmental sciences, or a related technical field;
  • A strong affinity with (nuclear) waste management, environmental protection, and radiation safety;
  • Excellent communication skills in both Dutch and English (spoken and written);
  • Experience with project-based work, including coordinating multidisciplinary teams and collaborating with external partners;
  • A results-oriented, analytical, and proactive mindset, with the ability to work independently and take ownership of complex technical challenges;
  • An interest in nuclear technology and a desire to contribute to cutting-edge advancements in waste processing and sustainability.
